How Easy Contacting Your Professor/Advisor Is

Most full time professors and department heads have office hours on their door or require an appointment. But what do you do if they don’t? How do you find where to contact them? You have a question for your advisor but you don’t know who they are?

I’m here to help!

Finding contact info:

  • Check your syllabus: during the first week of class, professors will hand out or go over in some way, the syllabus for the course. Professors will most likely tell you how they prefer to be contacted.

My tip! What I like to do, the second I get the syllabus, is to highlight the email of the professor. That way when I flip through my folder I can easily find it when I’m looking for it.

Some professors don’t print the syllabus out so maybe you could bookmark it or print it out instead!

  • Webster website: going to webster.edu will take you to the Webster University home page. You can search the professor/advisor’s name into the search bar and click their name once you’ve searched it. Each instructor will have information such as: their department, classes they teach, and contact information.

    • Or simply ask Google (ex: typing in ‘Webster Julie Smith’) and it will give you the same results.

Who is my advisor?

>log into connections (connections.webster.edu)

>click on Student Academic Services

>on the left, click the Biographical tab

On this tab, your advisor (their contact email), your degree, major, graduation date, and more can be found.

Remember that instructors and advisors are there for YOU. Your time and ability to reach out to staff is part of your experience.

Especially in the School of Communications, networking is everything. Become a familiar face to your advisor and your professors. Get involved, go to events on campus, and join clubs that benefit your major.
