Forensics & Debate

The Webster University Forensics and Debate Team, part of the School of Communications, is one of the most competitive in the country. Typically, the team participates in 10 to 15 tournaments a year, mixing regional and national events to diversify the experience.

We are excited about what we will learn on this virtual journey. We believe that the skills we learn as we compete in virtual tournaments, on multiple platforms, all created exclusively for forensics, will be skills that will carry the students into their careers and will help them to become leaders in their chosen fields. Our students are up for the challenge of the year. We plan to call this year “Forensics Around the Nation” as we are not limited by geography in where we can travel this year since it is virtual travel. We plan to attend tournaments in Florida, California, Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri, and Texas. We also plan to host two virtual tournaments, a virtual trivia night, a virtual campus debate watch (presidential debate), and we are hoping to add other virtual campus events.

The Galaxy Radio

The Galaxy Radio is Webster University's student-run radio station. Our mission is to create a united community environment of passionate individuals, while striving to provide quality radio to our listeners. We are your station, your voice, The Galaxy Radio.

(Position we are currently interviewing for) (as of 9/10/2020)

• Music Director
• Web Designer
• Community Affairs Director
• Production Director

• The Galaxy manager meetings will continue to be held weekly (this year they will be on Zoom). • DJ Meetings will be held on Zoom monthly

• This year’s station focus is on discovering new ways to serve Webster students on air and a stronger social media presence. Focus items include: Searching for impactful syndication programming, besides student DJ’s hosting music they are passionate about we intend to identify local music for airing, create block programming that covers a wider variety of music including jazz, blues world music, and other genres of interest to students that are not typically heard on commercial radio. We will look to identify student talent and projects and their creativity and skills with an honorable mention piece or actual airing of student work (when provided), promoting podcasts of students and faculty, presentation of campus and local news, campus event announcements, stronger promotion of station through social media, flyers and on air and a call for students to participate at the station. While station promotions that encourage gathering listeners are important, we are aware of the challenges that Covid 19 pose and will spend the majority our promotional focus on building and promoting the station’s image as opposed to gathering students together this year.

• My goal for the station continues to be empowering all students involved with encouragement and support of their ideas for growing the radio stations identity. Assisting students with researching and finding new ideas and challenges that not only help students with the promotion of their show and the station but in future decision-making processes too. This plan includes guest speaker seminars (on Zoom) from radio professionals and other college campus management symposiums (through Zoom) and possible faculty involvement.

Game Development Club

The club is still operating this year! If you are new to Webster University, the Game Development Club is a campus organization dedicated to building portfolios as well as building skills important to game production! We accept students of all majors, and we make use of the following skills:

• Programming

• Art (2D/3D)

• Game Design

• Writing

• Music & Sound Design

You do not have to be a master of any of these skills! Again, the purpose of the club is to hone these skills. We intend to make at least one game each semester that we upload to Itch for students to share!

Again, we meet virtually on Mondays at 2:00 PM on our Discord server! Not a good time? That’s alright, join the server anyway, we can make it work! Here’s a link: https://discord.gg/fjasMbH
