Study Abroad Questions to Ask

Before I studied abroad last summer I had a TON of questions! (Not to mention I would be a first time flyer, and had never traveled alone!) I’ve made a list of oddball, logistical, and general questions to ask yourself/friends or people at Study Abroad before you start your Study Abroad experience!

Packing

How much space should I leave empty in my suitcase?

If I’m traveling somewhere cold, how can I pack light?

What is something you regret NOT packing with you?

Cell phone/Wifi

Should I get a SIM card in my visiting country?

Should I pay for an international plan? Is it worth it?

Is Wifi very accessible in my visiting country?

Is there Wifi where I’ll be staying?

Here’s what I did: I managed to live off of Wifi the whole time I was in Greece, and I downloaded music, maps, and anything else while I had internet so I could use it offline.

Money

Is cash used more frequently than cards in my visiting country?

Should I get an international debit card? How can I get one?

How expensive is food? Shopping? Museums/sites?

How much should I budget for my trip?

Public transportation

Where will I buy my train/bus/tram pass?

Is the public transit easy to use?

Is the transportation reliable?

Can I travel to other countries from where I’m staying?

General Q’s

How can I practice good mental health while abroad?

What are some struggles you went through when studying abroad?

Tips on traveling alone?

Favorite countries you visited?

What did you use to keep in touch with people? (WhatsApp, Skype, etc)

Cultural do’s and don'ts? Things to avoid and/or take advantage of?

How easy is it to find toiletries in my country?

What is the weather like in my country for the months I will be there?

Where can I get my passport process done?

Don’t be afraid to reach out to me or anyone else for any questions you have! Happy travels!
